Built by us, for us

Carnarvon Common Ground (CCG) is a community-led approach to creating a stronger, safer future for Carnarvon – one built on local voice, shared responsibility and practical action.

We bring community, service providers and government together to focus on the causes of harm early, strengthen what is already working, and back local solutions that make a lasting difference.

What is Carnarvon Common Ground?

CCG is about working together differently – listening to community, strengthening local leadership, and coordinating practical responses that address the underlying causes of harm before they become crisis.

Rather than relying only on reactive systems, CCG focus’s on prevention, healing, youth opportunity, stronger families and safer communities.

Our Vision

Carnarvon is stronger, safer, together

“Carnarvon is a community that respects its rich cultural heritage, empowers its youth to shape the future, and grows stronger through unity and shared responsibility.

Together, we create a safe, inclusive and vibrant town where everyone belongs, we are open to opportunities, and resilience is our foundation.”

What we do

Community input shapes our priorities, partnerships help us build momentum, and practical projects turn ideas into action.

We listen to community and identify shared priorities.

We bring together partners to design practical local solutions.

We focus on Action to turn priorities into projects on the ground

A whole of Life Approach

The CCG approach is whole of life. We seek insight and input from community across every life stage, then use that input to improve service delivery.

This means our work is not focused on one issue alone. It connects early childhood, youth, justice, wellbeing, healing, culture, education, employment and stronger families into one bigger picture.

Our Artists

Respected member of Carnarvon Common Ground, Devinia Wainwright collaborated and mentored Theonie McKenna to create the artwork for the Project. This piece tells the story of our community walking together toward a shared future. It represents the Common Ground as a place where services and community unite to provide support, guidance, connection, and healing for our youth and families.

The river meeting the sea – a landmark of Carnarvon -symbolises peace, grounding, and our deep connection to spirit and ancestors who walk with us every day. Our lands and ocean sustain us with traditional foods like mullet, kangaroo, and turtle, keeping us strong and healthy while preserving our culture for generations to come.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge and pay our deepest respects to the Yinggarda people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this project operates. We honour their enduring connection to Country, culture, and community. We pay respect to Elders past, and present.

We also recognise the important contributions of other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island language groups who enrich this project. Their wisdom and guidance continue to shape the Carnarvon Common Ground Project.
